This legend had been told throughout the Galaxy, passed on through generations from father to son, from mother to daughter, a story to send shivers down your spine, to make children have nightmares, one that grandfathers whispered to their grandchildren but never when the night came down.
Alcon could only watch the young lovers from her cave high above the Magnam Ocean as they swam, laughed and loved together. Day after day her jealousy of the young couple grew until she could take no more, she had to find a way of taking Osian for herself.
The hec of Amoma passed into Epimot; summer was halfway through before her chance finally arrived.
Dawn had just broken when Deona came out of the sea to look for combs to decorate her hair. Alcon wandered down to the beach and it was not long before she won the confidence of the young dragon, and even less time to invite her to take refreshments with her in her home. A few drops of curis in her tea and Deona was completely at Alcon’s mercy, she wasted no time in chaining the young Goddess to the cave wall. But her hatred of Deona had made her heart cold and she did not kill her immediately, instead she took pleasure in watching the pain and suffering of Deona as she slowly starved towards her death.
Osian searched the oceans from one side of the planet to the other, Alcon joined in the search, pretending to help, yet all the time contriving to get her claws into the heart of the Sea God. The hecs of Florris and Lunnas passed, but no trace of Deona was found, her calls for help had gone unheard and now she was too weak to shout.
But, as with all tales of greed, Alcon became careless and left the cave unguarded. A sudden meteor storm hit the southern side of the planet and Dracon, who had spent all his waking hours searching for his beloved daughter took shelter in Alcon’s cave. He found Deona chained to the wall.
Her beautiful scales had fallen from her body, you could see the outline of her heart as it beat slowly in her breast her golden hair lay like straw on the wet, stinking ground. Dracon undid the chains that bound her, he held her in his arms his tears falling on her sunken face. In a matter of moments she was dead but with her dying breath she whispered Alcon’s name.
Dracon’s fury was such, that having caught Alcon he put a curse on her;
Never again would she be able to creep up on an unsuspecting victims, for should she come into contact with any living soul, a smell as rancid as that which enveloped his daughter’s body would warn of her evil.
To show her cunning, he had her tail sliced into two pieces, like a viper’s tongue. He took away her voice leaving only a green slime in her mouth that oozed forth every time she opened it to speak. Then lastly he cursed her with a fear of water, never again would she be able to venture into the sea in search of her God of the Oceans.
Osian totally devastated by the loss of Deona dived to the bottom of the Magnam and was never seen again.
